Polish Style Beef Tartar {Befsztyk Tatarski}

Polish style Beef tartar {befsztyk tatarski} is a popular party dish in Poland. Since beef is quite expensive here, it is considered quite the delicacy and it’s often served at upscale restaurants. Fresh, top quality beef is minced and served with pickled sides and a raw egg yolk. It is quite mild and delicious. I like mine heavily peppered, for an additional sharp accent.

My recipe below is simple and will take no time to prepare. Keep your dish extra cold and serve right away. It will make a great party conversation piece or an impressive appetizer.

  • Yields: 4 servings
  • Prep Time: 15 min

Ingredients

  • About 12 oz / 400 g of lean beef
  • 2 tbs of vegetable oil
  • Sprinkle of salt
  • Coarsely ground pepper
  • 4 medium dill pickles
  • 8 pickled mushrooms
  • 4 tbs of minced onion
  • 4 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Clean and dry beef. Cube and grind using a meat grinder with the course grinding plate (or mince with a knife).

  2. To minced beef add oil, sprinkle of salt and pepper. Mix gently.

  3. Mince pickles, mushrooms and onion, set aside.

  4. To serve divide meat into four portions and roll into a flattened ball. Make an indentation in the meat and place a yolk in it. Decorate with minced vegetables by placing around the meat.

  5. Sprinkle everything with a bit of pepper and serve with slices of bread.

Hope you enjoy and smacznego!

Love,

Anna
