“Christel Schubert DZIECIŃSTWO 1935-1949”
– autographed hardcover (in Polish)
“In 1938, three-year-old Christel Jonas moved to Szczecin with her parents, and in 1940 her brother Siegmar was born there.
Exactly 80 years later, in April 2018, I was returning home with my son and in the courtyard of the house
where Christel lived, and now I lived with my family, on Święty Wojciech 1 Street, I met Siegmar Jonas.
He was sitting on a bench with his wife and two daughters. That’s how our friendship began. A friendship born of attachment to the place where we both lived, but at different times. With whom we have the closest heart of memories. Although different, it is right here, in the most beautiful Art Nouveau in Szczecin (excerpt from the introduction).
I am very happy that I was able to translate Christel’s memoirs and present them to Polish
readers. I supplemented her text with photographs of Szczecin from 2019-2021. I hope they are too
they will find here the living history of our city, and each subsequent walk will be a moment in which
we will find the past and our roots as inhabitants of Szczecin.”
